How much power should the Government have over citizens in the U.S? In my opinion I think the government should about half of the control over citizens in the U.S because people should have some control over themselves and not always looking forward for help from the Government.
The government should have some – but not total – control in the lives of its citizens. During the Great Depression, the government had to step in and help poor people. However, although the government should be allowed to tax citizens, it shouldn’t tax them too heavily. Additionally, Social Security had both positive and negative impacts on Americans.
One important thing that was at stake in the great Depression was African Americans’ survival needs. This was the most important thing that was at stake because black women were getting paid very little even when when they were working 24/7 ( Source2). When they began to lose more jobs, this made things worse because that could drive them into full homelessness. If they were homeless they wouldn’t be able to take care of their family and they might have to sell their body for money. The government should help the poor because nobody should be homeless especially women because they have to go through a lot.
In my opinion I think the government should have some control over citizens of America because, although the government can help the poor people through taxes, the rich should not be taxed too heavily. Huey Long proposed a program that set a limit to how much money people can earn.”.The Government was expanding hospitals, and educational institutions across the U.S”. I also think the Government shouldn’t have control over citizens of America because the people that’s rich honestly earned their money fair and they don’t deserve to get their money cut out because some people don’t want to go and do something with their life and now they poor.
Social Security plays a role in people’s lives that is both positive and negative. FDR delivered a speech saying “we can never insure 100% of the population against 100% of the ups and downs of life, but we have tried to pass a law which will give some protection to the average citizen and to his family against the loss of a job and against poverty-ridden old age” (Doc A). When you lose your job, Social Security will make sure your family is okay. Social Security gives the elderly a lot of money so they don’t have any worries when it come to money. When you retire Social Security gives you money because you no longer have a job to provide for you or your family.
How much control should the government have over citizens in the U.S? In my opinion I think the government should about half of the control over citizens in the U.S because people should have some control over themselves and not always looking forward for help from the Government. Someone might argue against my thesis because people have their own opinion on different things and they might have different researches about it.
