Many topics are being spoken now one of them are whether government should have full control or not…In 1929 -1939, the great depression hit hard when stock markets crashed. This led to a loss of jobs and many individuals going into poverty. So how much control should the US government have over the lives of its citizens? The government should have some control over the lives of its citizens because, although the TVA provided jobs for the unemployed, it took too much power when it put Japanese-Americans in internment camps and when it began taking money from citizens’ paychecks to fund Social Security.
The government should have some control over the lives of its citizens so that it can help the poor, for example when it provided jobs and electricity through the TVA. “The first benefit we received from the REA service was lights, and aren’t lights grand? My little boy expressed my sentiments when he said ‘mother I didn’t realize how dark our house was until we got electric lights” (Doc C). The TVA provided jobs for the unemployed and even helped families have electricity. This is a good thing because now parents can have a income and be able to provide for their kids.
Government should have some control in the lives of the lives of the citizens however it was wrong for the government to put the Japanese Americans into internment camps. “Color seems to be the only possible reason why thousands of American citizens of Japanese ancestry are in concentration camp” (Doc C). The American government was being racist because they felt like Japanese Americans or people of Japanese descent weren’t fit to be free. Although they were also fighting Germans and Italians, they didn’t put these people into camps because they were white. Crazy, racism, and terrible leadership.
The government should not have so much control that it is able to take money from people for Social Security. “Therefore this population is left out from the old age annuity, and that represents approximately 490,000 negroes” (Doc B). “Today a long held hope is largely fulfilled” (Doc A). Social Security has been a success, Social Security benefits unemployed older workers who worked hard. These pieces of evidence shows how both old age people and younger workers will be benefited if they participated and social security act so overall the social security act was a good thing.
The government should have a lot of control over the lives of its citizens for example when it provided jobs and electricity through the TVA. Some individuals might say that the government should not have control over the lives of citizens because they feel like the Social Security Act was a bad thing because African Americans did not participate in it. Others might say that the government has too much control because Japanese Americans should never gotten locked up. However the government had their reasons for doing what they did. 75% because the government would be focusing on the important issues instead of personal lives. Also I think my reader should be interested in this to know all about how the government took action when it came to Social security and how the government handled it.
